Our Raw Arbutus Honey is a potent, full flavour honey with a multi-layer taste. This honey has a bitterness to its profile with a hint of caramel. Arbutus honey is not for everyone however those who do enjoy it find it very nourishing. If you are keen and adventurous as we are in discovering new varieties of honey that we did not know existed, then this honey is the one to try.

This honey has a taste similar to high quality black coffee and bitter dark chocolate.

Colour: This honey is a deep brown, smoky amber colour.

Who produces our honey? Our Raw Arbutus Honey is produced by local beekeepers in Spain, who produce honey at an undeniable level of expertise. 

Botanical Origin: The bees forage on the Arbutus Bush (Arbutus Unedo), an evergreen that has many medicinal properties. It belongs to the family of Ericaceae, and it often comes in the form of a large shrub or small tree that can reach, in some cases, up to eight feet tall.

Benefits/Uses: Strawberry tree honey has many therapeutic properties and is popularly used as a diuretic, anti-asthmatic (for bronchial infections), urinary antiseptic and to improve blood circulation. Studies have shown this honey type has high antioxidant levels, much more so than Buckwheat or Chestnut honey.

It does not rapidly increase your blood sugar level however do consult your doctor before use.

Honey and Crystallisation

Crystallisation is a natural process with honey so please do not be alarmed. Most supermarket honey does not set as quickly due to high heat processing and rapid cooling which keeps the honey runny for longer. 

If your honey is set, you can make it runnier by placing it in a pan of hot water for about ten minutes (and repeat as necessary). Please store it in a warm place in the household but away from direct sunlight.
